Шедевры буддийского искусства

Кочевники-калмыки дарили императору и вещи бытового назначения из своего обихода — богато украшенную одежду, сосуды для кумыса.

Но основная часть их подношений — буддийские памятники, украшения алтаря. Особым чувством и индивидуальным пожеланием проникнут дар нойонов 1909 года. Калмыцкая депутация вручила высокие буддийские символы каждому члену императорской семьи.

Dagger of kama type. Its steel blade has a producer’s brand on the front. To the ivory handle is attached a silver plate with the date (1844-45) and engraved and nielloed inscription in Arabian. The inscription can be translated either as: “Be contented with death and thank [Allah], o Mullah” or as: “Don’t fear death and be brave”.  On the inner side of the handle is cut an inscription “1849, December 20 P.S.” All silver elements of the sheath are ornamented with engraving and niello work.

Kama-type dagger. Its steel blade has a golden inscription in Armenian on both sides: “Made by Glaha Mamiconov for Ogandgan Budagov in November 20, 1827”.  All silver parts of the sheath are decorated with engraving and niello work.

Dagger of bebut type with a curved blade is decorated with floral patterns, engraved in gold on the spine, and animal scenes. The handle of dagger is made of ivory, decorated with intricate carving on both sides with arabesques in cartouches.
